Preparing Children for Adoptive Placement
- Prior to selecting an adoptive placement for an adoptable child, OAS will:
- Assess the child’s medical, psychological, social, and developmental needs, and will design an adoptive family profile consistent with the child’s needs and best interests.
- Design a written plan of developmentally appropriate pre-placement and post-placement services necessary to facilitate the child’s adjustment to placement.
- Assess whether the child is a potential candidate for an adoption subsidy.
- The plan will, at a minimum, include:
- Placing the child on the Registry if there is no adoptive family readily available to adopt the child.
- Giving the child a developmentally appropriate explanation of the adoption process.
- OAS will provide the child with services in accordance with the child’s plan.
