Dawn Upton, MA Ed, has been instructing parent educational courses since 1985 and facilitates corporate trainings on an international level. As an instructor she has an engaging and interactive teaching style.
Classes are held at the University of Phoenix, Hohokam Campus. Class space is reserved with prior payment of $300.00. A valuable course workbook with Adoption resources is included.

The adoption course was awesome! We were surprised to learn how much we didn't know and came away with many great ideas/suggestions. We even agreed that parents who have biological children could benefit from the "parenting" section. Dawn was great! We could tell her heart was in it and with her knowledge of everything; it was as if she's gone thru the adoption process personally! Even though we were exhausted at the end of each day, it was a good kind of tired-from taking in a wealth of helpful information! Dawn's "journeys" really helped us to "see" what exactly our little girl will have gone/will go through; which is SO important to know! One of the neatest things about this course for me, was the reward at the end...the family that comes at the end of the last day! It helped me to see that there really is a beautiful 'end' to all this paperchasing, waiting, and emotional time we all have to endure. I was definitely uplifted to see what lies ahead! We also felt like our class got somewhat 'close' together which was really neat. We still keep in touch w/ several of the couples and love being able to share this experience with new friends!

I was surprised by the Adoption Prep class. Being a parent already and looking at some of the topics in the class, I was thinking I already know alot of this stuff - parenting, discipline, etc. However, I was surprised at how interested and involved I was in the teaching. I have been to many seminars and classes, so I know the routine of how they go. Check in, introduce yourself, listen, think to yourself what could I be doing right now and I was surprised that I did not think that once while in the class. Dawn is an exceptional teacher. She has a gift for drawing you in, making you feel comfortable, and allowing you to thinking about things you never had before. I loved meeting other couples that are going through what we are in the adoption process. We are all staying in contact and cannot wait to meet everyone's daughters in the near future. I liked the exercises Dawn had us do. It gave us time one on one to discuss and become familiar with your spouse's feelings, thoughts and attitudes. I really found the transculture teaching important to me. I did not realize until this class how important this will be in her life. I think it is a blessing and a gift from her to my husband, son and I that we get to experience some of her culture and traditions. I cannot wait!
